1. Know How To Construct Housing Joints.
The learner can:
1.2 Identify Types of Housing Joints
Housing joints are also known as dado joints, these are commonly used for building shelves and frames.
A housing joint is a three-sided channel that is cut across the grain of the wood and should not be more than three quarters the thickness of the timber.
To obtain a neater finish to the face side of the timber a stop housing joint is used.
The width of the housing is normally equal to the thickness of the shelf or partition it is to receive
The joint can be glued into place and checked for squareness before clamping allowing time for the glue to set.
For this assessment criteria, you need to be able to use hand tools to create housing joints.
Powered Routers achieve a higher quality finish, but you need to be shown how to use powered machinery safely without causing damage to yourself or the surrounding area.
