bounding

The illustration show below is in stretcher bond, also called as running bond.

The bricks are laid header to header and the stretcher side of the brick is what is seen, at the return angle (Quoin) or stop ends you will see the header face.

½ Bond must be maintained across the whole wall to ensure maximum strength for sideways pressure and loads.

If stretcher bond is used for boundary walls, gardens etc, they need attach piers at regular intervals for additional support, with Pillars constructed at each end of the wall.

Stretcher bonds are commonly used in the steel or reinforced concrete framed structures as the outer facing.

If you’re unsure about the terminology in bonding, go to Terms Used in Bonding

Two Header bricks with a perp joints are the length of a Stretcher face (102.5x215x65mm).

A “one brick” wall from front to back is the length of one brick.

The illustration shows a “half brick” wall.
