This snapshot of the assessment criteria which the candidate must be able to do,
Prepare and set out the area to receive the block paving
Lay bedding material to lay the block paving to the given specification
Bed the block paving
Cut paviours to create the pattern
Compact the area of block paving
Fill the paving joints
Maintain a clean working area throughout
Clear away the surplus materials and clean the tools after use
Work in a safe manner at all times

1.1 identify Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriate to preparing areas to receive block paving

1.2 identify materials required to prepare areas to receive block paving
1.3 identify tools and equipment required to prepare areas to receive block paving
Herringbone block pavers pattern whether it’s 45° or 90° because of it interlocking pattern it is commonly used for heavy loads such as driveways as the pattern doesn’t shift.
The first few blocks laid in 45° Herringbone Pattern need to be correctly lined up, so the direction of the pattern is straight.
All sides of the paving area will have two cuts on both sides a full block paver using more cuts than the 90° herringbone pattern.
90° Herringbone Pattern, is a lot easier to set out and theirs is less waste and has long straight lines to work too.
The cuts needed are half a block paver enabling you to use the other half so there’s no waste
