The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 provides the legal framework to promote, stimulate and encourage high standards of health and safety in places of work.
It protects employees and the public from work activities.
The 4 main objectives that the act enforces are:
1. Employers’ responsibilities
2. Employees’ responsibilities
3. Enforcement of Health and Safety legislation
4. Enforcement action
The act helps to reduce accidents, injury and loss of life and will minimise insurance costs.
Health and safety don’t get the job done any quicker or happier workforce, but what it can help with is to increase the company’s profits and reduce output times due to accidents or injury.
